Ratha Yatra Festival at Koraput Day 11 / 10 Night

Destinations: Visakhapatnam – Desia Koraput – Jeypore – Jagdalpur – Bhubaneswar

Rathayatra or The Chariot festival is the most important festival of Lord Jagannath commences on the 6th July Wedness day and Return Car Festival or Bahuda Jatra on 14th July this year 2016. This colourful Ratha yatra festival at Koraput attracts many indigeneous tribal communities. Lord Jagannath, Lord of the Universe, comes out of His sanctum sanctorum to give Darshan to all Devotees belonging to all sects and communities. lt is said that those who take part in the Car Festival earn their passage to the Heaven. Beating of drums, mridangas and the tribal folk dance during the festival set the mood. Cries of jai Jagannath , jai jagnnath will thick the air throughout the day. The return car festival in Puri is truly exciting for the colourful procession of Deities along with pilgrim activities. The return chariot festival at Puri is also a photographer’s delight.

Proposed Itinerary

Day 01: Sept 17- TUE – VISAKHAPATNAM

Arrival Visakhapatnam from Delhi/Mumbai/Hyderabad/Chennai and transfer to hotel.

Visit the Simanchal temple in the afternoon and take a walk on the popular marine drive.Orientation of the tour by our guide and welcome drink hosted by us.

Day 02: 27th Sept-WED – DESIA

(www.desiakoraput.com) In the morning board the spectacular train ride through the valley and tunnels to Araku (4 HRS) and then by road to DESIA.

Warm welcome by the local host community. Visit the adopted village and interact with the locals.
Back to Desia and stay.

Day 03: 28th Sept-THU- DESIA-BONDA TRIBE WEEKLY MARKET/DESIA

In the morning visit BONDA tribal market and the DUDUMA waterfalls stay at DESIA.

Day 04: Sept-FRI – Desia

Hike to a villages to meet the daily life of the tribe, lunch in the village and followed by tribal dance.

Day 05: 30th Sept- SAT – Dasahara Festival/Jagdalpur

Visit the colourful market for Dhuruba tribes and proceed to Jagdalpur to see the dasahara festival. Enroute visit the Kotapad textile village famous for unique dying process.

Day 06: 1st Oct 17 –SUN- Dasahara Festival/Jagdalpur

Full day at Jagdalpur to enjoy the colorful Dasahara festival and also the festive activities. Overnight stay in a decent hotel at jagadalpur.

Day 07: 29th Sept-FRI-DESIA

Hike to a villages to meet the daily life of the tribe, lunch in the village and followed by tribal dance.

Day 08: 30th Sept-SAT-DASAHARA FESTIVAL/JAGDALPUR

Visit the colourful market for Dhuruba tribes and proceed to Jagdalpur to see the dasahara festival. Enroute visit the Kotapad textile village famous for unique dying process.

Day 09: 1st Oct 17-SUN-DASAHARA FESTIVAL /JAGDALPUR

Full day at  Jagdalpur  to enjoy the  colorful Dasahara festival and also the festive activities. Overnight stay in a decent hotel at jagadalpur.

Day 10: 2nd Oct-Mon-JAGDALPUR

Excursion to Kondagaon village to see the various bellmetal work, terracotta work. Afternoon visit the colourful Tokapal weekly market for Muria tribes. Overnight stay in the same hotel.

Day 11: 3rd Oct-Drive back to Koraput

To board the train for Bhubaneswar /Visakhaptanam and onward journey.

Note: Tour can be extended for one more week to visit the Highlights of Odisha (Puri-Konark-Bhubaneswar-Gopalpur Beach).

Festival dates may change as it is mostly decided by the Lunar Calender and the tribal chief.
